Last week's match saw the 1st XI come up against Brynmawr CC in a Division 2 top of the table clash at Blaina. Brynmawr won the toss and chose to bat first on a beautiful afternoon with conditions perfect for batting. After a solid start, in which the openers put on 66 for the first wicket, Geraint Edwards came on to bowl his tidy off-spin. This proved to be a masterstroke from skipper Luke Jones, as the pitch helped no end with Edwards ripping through the Brynmawr top order, finishing with figures of 6-32. Brynmawr closed their innings on 203 all out, opener Tim Griffiths top scoring with 67. In reply, Blaina got off to a terrible start, both openers out with the score on 17. Bobby Reynolds and wily old pro Gary Norman set about repairing the damage, and, after a period of rebuilding, started making inroads into Brynmawr's score. Reynolds went for 58 with the total on 162-3, but new signing Bryn Harvey saw us home with Norman, who ended on 74 not out. Blaina won by 7 wickets and go top of the league!
